Livestock
(Those cool fish and inverts)

We stock a wide variety of freshwater, saltwater and corals – as long as it’s not illegal or too venomous! Due to the ever changing stock on hand, please call to see if we have the fish you’re looking for. We always suggest you research the livestock to make sure you can cater to their long-term needs. How to set up a Fresh Water aquarium

1. Buy an aquarium as large as your budge will allow. The smaller the aquarium, the more subject it is to undesirable temperature and water changes. 2. Choose a location for your aquarium that will not subject your fish to extreme light or temperature changes.
3. Leak check your aquarium on a level surface. Remember that water weighs 8 pounds per gallon and the stand upon which your aquarium sits should be strong and level. For more detailed information on this step, click here:  Setting up a new Aquarium.
4. Don’t use a TV for a stand.
5. We recommend an Under-gravel or sponge filter as a primary filter and mechanical filters as a back-up.
6. Use gravel 1/8” to 3/16” in size to a depth of 3” in back at lift tubes and 1 1/2” in the front of the tank with under gravel filter. Remember to rinse gravel and all decorations with clean water.
7. Condition your water with a product to eliminate chloramines.
8. Never place anything that has not been specifically designed for use in a freshwater aquarium in the tank. If questionable, ask!
9. Ranges in water temperature settings from 78-F to 82-F are suitable for most fish. A good heater and an accurate thermometer are a must!
10. Tank maintenance on new tanks: change 1/3 of the water once a week for the first two months. On established tanks, change 1/3 of the water every 2 weeks to once a month depending on how many fish are in the tank.
11. Place a full hood on your aquarium. Fish may jump out if no cover is used. The light should be turned off at night.
12. Go slow at first and ask questions!
